Three Wide Receiver Drills

Evan Loring
Evan Loring - Wide Receivers Coach at Harvard
As a senior manager for Congruity, Evan Loring has grown the information technology company's business portfolio by over 500 percent. Prior to joining the Pembroke, Massachusetts-based firm, Evan Loring spent time as a receivers coach with Harvard University's football team.

Wide receivers on a football team are tasked with catching passes from the quarterback, but there's more to the position than simply running and catching. Receivers need to be quick and agile, as well as have the ability to block opposing players when necessary. Below are three practice drills to help improve a receiver's all-around ability.

1. Side to side: Two players face each other about five yards apart near the goal line and, on command, begin running sideways and passing the football back and forth until reaching the opposite end zone.

2. Tap dance: Receivers begin sprinting toward the sideline and when they're within five yards a coach will throw the ball, forcing them to make a sideline catch with both of their feet in bounds.

3. Resisted sprints: A player lines up in a two-point stance with a teammate who braces the first player’s shoulders, keeping his arms straight. On command, the first player runs as fast as possible for five yards with the teammate providing resistance.

Pearl Jam's Drummers Invited to Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony

Evan Loring is an information technology professional currently employed as a senior manager with Congruity who previously served as a receivers coach for Harvard University's football team. A fan of rock music, Evan Loring counts Pearl Jam as one of his favorite bands.

A Seattle-based rock band, Pearl Jam has created numerous hit songs throughout the past two decades, and the band members will be recognized for their success with induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The 2017 inductees were announced in September 2016 and joining Pearl Jam were Tupac Shakur, Journey, Yes, Joan Baez, and Electric Light Orchestra.

Neil Young welcomed present-day members of the "Even Flow" group into the Rock Hall as well as the additional four drummers that played in the band over the years. The official induction list included Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, and drummers Dave Krusen and Matt Cameron, but Pearl Jam invited Dave Abbruzzese, Jack Irons, and Matt Chamberlain, all of whom served as a drummer in the band at one point, to take part in the celebration.

Banking and Manufacturing Sectors Drive Global IT Revenue Growth

A former collegiate athlete and wide receiver coach for both the University of New Hampshire and Harvard University, Evan Loring now draws on his leadership skills to serve as a senior manager at Congruity. As a member of the Pembroke, Massachusetts, business consulting firm, Evan Loring assists large enterprises in planning their annual spending in the critical area of information technology.

A recent report from International Data Corporation (IDC) suggests that IT spending throughout the global business sector will continue to exhibit strong growth in 2017. According to analysis by the market research firm, the year will see companies spend some $2.4 trillion on technology services and infrastructure, marking a 3.5 percent increase from 2016.

IDC projects that the major drivers of this growth will be the discrete manufacturing and banking sectors. These verticals are poised to generate approximately 30 percent of all IT revenue, with banking standing out as one of the fastest-growing industries in terms of IT spending. Government agencies and telecommunications firms will also account for a large portion of this spending. However, it is worth noting that health care, media, and professional services companies are currently the fastest-growing contributors to international IT revenue.
